hey look! an update! 1 of....

look at me, finally updating.

finally.

lots to talk about, and i've learned lots since i last wrote.

so i started taking an airbrush class up at a now defunct craft store. (the wife a while ago saw wilton classes available, and i got a "please?" with the puppydog eyes...) so when i saw airbrush classes, i used the same tactic, and surprise, it worked!

(did i cover this already?)

the teacher's name is Joe Flores, he's been painting since '75. needless to say, he's good. REALLY good.

anyways, one of the first things we did in class was to paint goofy...

not too bad, was quick. and fun! oh yeah - one of the biggest things i've learned in class is that surface prep is your friend! the big issues i had painting the last helmet (peeling paint, etc) all stemmed from not prepping the surface. sand and prime! and possibly sand again! (dur.)

so, a bit before i started taking the class, i had bought a new portable hard drive and started getting the itch to paint it. way back in the winter olympics (2010) the Americans had a design on their uniforms (at least the speed skaters and hockey players did) that was a pretty cool star/olympic flame hybrid thing...

so i decided that it needed to go on my hard drive.

prepped and ready to go!

hardcore tracing action!

traced-ed...

see? sanded and cleaned!

frisket applied, design cut out.

amazingly, that's white. but sparkly, so it looks silver...

area masked off to paint the flames...

fresh coat of white applied, in preparation for...

this! yeah, i know. keep scrolling...

mid frisket removal

not bad!

and clear coated.

so there's the first project. more to come! i figure this post is long enough as it is... but keep reading! i'll keep writing!
